As we approach one year since George Floyd’s murder and the subsequent calls to action for racial justice in society and anti-racism in the geosciences, we invite reflections from current and emerging leaders and community members in a follow-up workshop. We will hear updates from a panel of speakers who have been leading anti-racism efforts over the past year and provide space to support and build solidarity with the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) geoscience community in the wake of increasingly visible anti-AAPI racism and violence in the US. We will invite participants to share actions taken, challenges faced, and progress made towards implementing anti-racist actions in institutions and the broader geoscience community.
To register, fill out this brief form, and a zoom link will be sent to you.

Convener: AGU / American Meteorological Society Workshop
This workshop will bring together students and their allies to discuss effective strategies for organizing around DEI and feature specific examples of successes and challenges faced along the way. Panelists will highlight the role of allies (whether they are other students, faculty, chairs or deans) in helping to reach their goals. In addition, students will have the opportunity to be part of a larger network of students doing this work.
This workshop, scheduled as an American Meteorological Society Annual Meeting post-conference workshop, is open to students and anyone looking to learn from student leaders in DEI. Participation is open to all.
The workshop recording is available here.

Convener: Geological Society of America
Time is ET
Geoscientists of Color and Call to Action teams will host the workshop to grow awareness of the anti-racism calls to action. It will occur during the Geological Society of America (GSA) virtual conference week. The workshop will revisit two widely shared calls for anti-racist action in the geosciences, No Time For Silence and A Robust Anti-racism Plan, published in Summer 2020. During this workshop, participants will hear from organizers of the calls, reflect on anti-racist actions they can take and advocate for, and consider ways to move forward as a community.
To register, fill out this brief form to then receive a Zoom link. You do not need to be a member of GSA or be registered for the GSA conference to participate.

Have you ever witnessed social bias — a stereotype, a prejudice or discrimination, and wondered, “Why didn’t I say something?”
Deciding whether and how to respond to bias is complicated. Understanding what motivates us to speak up, the challenges we face when doing so, and strategies for effectively responding to bias can help bystanders better evaluate their options.
