As we approach one year since George Floyd’s murder and the subsequent calls to action for racial justice in society and anti-racism in the geosciences, we invite reflections from current and emerging leaders and community members in a follow-up workshop. We will hear updates from a panel of speakers who have been leading anti-racism efforts over the past year and provide space to support and build solidarity with the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) geoscience community in the wake of increasingly visible anti-AAPI racism and violence in the US. We will invite participants to share actions taken, challenges faced, and progress made towards implementing anti-racist actions in institutions and the broader geoscience community.

Geoscientists of Color and Call to Action teams will host the workshop to grow awareness of the anti-racism calls to action. It will occur during the Geological Society of America (GSA) virtual conference week. The workshop will revisit two widely shared calls for anti-racist action in the geosciences, No Time For Silence and A Robust Anti-racism Plan, published in Summer 2020. During this workshop, participants will hear from organizers of the calls, reflect on anti-racist actions they can take and advocate for, and consider ways to move forward as a community.
