BROOKS HANSON
Brooks Hanson, Ph.D., (he, him, his) is the executive vice president for science at AGU.
He is responsible for the oversight, expansion and coordination across AGU’s programs (including meetings, Thriving Earth Exchange, ethics, data programs and publications) and AGU’s portfolio of scholarly books, as well as 20+ journals and their editorial operations.
He has been speaking and writing on authorship and publications ethics for many years and has most recently focused on diversity and implicit bias in scholarly publishing.
Before joining AGU, Hanson was the deputy editor for physical sciences at Science and worked as an editor at Science.
He holds a Ph.D. in geology and his main areas of research and publication span the tectonics of the western United States, metamorphic petrology, modeling magmatic and hydrothermal processes and scholarly publishing. Hanson is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America and the Mineralogical Society of America.
